Lexico Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of the Lexico app for iPhone and iPad ("Lexico" or "the app"), made by Teodor Dermendzhiev ("we"). By downloading or using Lexico you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

What Lexico is

Lexico is a reading app for learning languages. It provides books prepared for learners, automatic sentence translations and word glosses, verb conjugation tables, flashcards and reading statistics. It is a study aid, not a certified course, and it does not guarantee any learning outcome.

Your account

You can use Lexico without an account. Signing in with Apple, Google or email creates an account that backs up your reading data and keeps your devices in step. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure and for what happens under your account. You can sign out or delete your account at any time from Settings → Account; deleting it removes your account and its data from our servers.

Lexico is not directed at children under 13, and you may only create an account if you are old enough to consent to one where you live, or a parent or guardian agrees on your behalf.

Licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use Lexico on Apple devices you own or control, under the App Store terms. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app, or extract its book files, translations, dictionaries or conjugation data for use outside the app, except where the law allows it.

Books and content

The books in Lexico's catalogue are public-domain texts, or texts we have a licence to offer, prepared sentence by sentence for learners. Some books are free; for others the first chapters are free and the full text is unlocked with an in-app purchase. We may add, update or withdraw books from the catalogue. A book you have purchased stays available to you as long as it remains in the catalogue and the app is supported.

Translations, word meanings and conjugation tables are generated automatically and may contain mistakes. They are there to help you keep reading, not to be relied on as an authoritative dictionary or grammar.

Adding your own books is not currently supported.

Purchases

In-app purchases are made through Apple and are subject to Apple's terms, prices and refund rules. We do not see or store your payment details. If you reinstall the app or move to a new device, use "Restore purchases" on a book's unlock screen to recover unlocks tied to your Apple ID.

Acceptable use

Don't use Lexico in a way that breaks the law, interferes with the service or other users, or attempts to gain access to accounts, data or systems that aren't yours. We may suspend or close an account that does.

Privacy

How the app handles your data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of Lexico, and may update these terms. If we make a material change we will publish the new version at this address with an updated date. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms.

Disclaimer and liability

Lexico is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties about its accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [your country], and disputes are subject to the courts there, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules in the country where you live.
